London Futurists 
I am not particularly familiar with London Futurists but want to check that the awareness is there that there is no scientific consensus on GMO Safety. This is important and there is a world of information out there about food sovereignty and small farmers. Cancer……again I want to check that the awareness is there within the group regarding joined up thinking…I’m afraid listening to the Globalnet21 webinar, David Wood, I don’t think the awareness is there :-(.
I am somewhat disappointed.
It is essential emerging and converging technologies are regulated correctly, I do not believe this is going to happen unless there is a change in the system and without more joined up thinking.

I want to say a big thank you to David Wood for the webinar, but with respect he appears to be badly informed regarding the GM debate and way too trusting.
What else could there be that London Futurists are not aware of? I am concerned.

A key point is this, in my humble opinion:
There is not a level playing field for scientific debate and too many people, like David Wood, are not thinking to question what establishment science is telling them….anyway just forming an impression from the webinar which I did not watch to the end.
Level playing field debate and communication amongst scientists from different fields needs to be improved.

What is great about the webinar is that David Wood comes across that he is open to discussion so maybe there is some hope……the right of peoples to define their own food and agriculture systems and hopefully their own futures.

Hi Theresa, It’s interesting – and telling – that you assume that, because I reached a different conclusion from you about the potential merits of GMO, that I must be unaware of the material you have seen. I’ll simply say that I’ve done a great deal of reading on GMO and stand by my position. Be assured that, with my training in the philosophy of science, and with my background as a supporter of many other positions that do *not* (yet) have the support of mainstream scientists, I am aware that lots of pressures distort this debate, on both sides.
what concerns me is the relative silence in the media concerning the singularity. This supposed to be the greatest event in human history yet its as if its the farthest thing from the minds of most people. Do you think that this is because the idea of the singularity discourages people i guess because its so uncertain and scary?
Hi Ron – You’re right that the topic of the Singularity needs better communication, to overcome the misunderstandings about it, and to identify some concrete actions people can take in response. I’m trying to strike the right balance in my book “Transcending Politics”
